I could be tempted to try a Pinion 18, but not a Pinion 12. The gears are spaced farther apart than I would like. I find my Rohoff gears are a bit farther apart than I would like, but they are close enough that I can live with it. The Pinion 12 gear spacing is much wider than that.
Use both...Why settle for just one thing Rohloff and Pinion or get a tandem with two pinions and a Rohloff and you can try the 12 and the 18.
