I can only speculate that this infection has been going on for weeks, which likely means any useful backups are corrupt as well, else they would have restored by now. Doubtful....the only thing that slows the proliferation of a bug like this is the read/write speed of mass-storage once it is inside the floodgates. Viruses/malware took down entire NCAA div-1 sized networks in an afternoon a decade or two ago--and everything was far slower back then.
