This looks like an armless dude laying pipe to the HT. Maybe he's using his 'bit" to drill holes for a badge to be screwed on. If you look at the first pic, the DT shifters could be his arms, He is holding on for a hard ride.

In all seriousness, It just looks like a big glob of metal. As said previously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Definitely on the opposite end of the design spectrum than say, a Stronglight crank.
