I'd go with function over aesthetics, at least for my main equipment.
Though it's not my *dream* bike, my current road bike is pink. I hate pink. I bought it because it had everything else I wanted for the price I was willing to spend. I am now also the proud owner of pink water bottles, because I kinda care about aesthetics, but not enough to override what I want from my equipment.
Same thing with bike kit - sometimes it completely matches, sometimes it doesn't. I like hi-viz socks in low light conditions (function), even if they don't match anything. Off the bike, I like the aesthetic of wearing all or mostly black. That's not gonna work for me out on the road.
