You wave to the car to GO. Their response is usually to wave you through, which you then do without stopping - smiling and saying "Thanks".
It was a 4-way stop, though, and they had the right of way.
(Besides, I didn't think of waving. If they could have seen it in the dark....)
Anyway, didn't want to do my usual rolling stop right in front of a witness.
