I'd like to sometime as well. Years ago my family would take a semi-regular vacation to Steamboat to go skiing - the best thing ever was the sequence of blue runs from the top of the mountain that would take somewhere around 45 minutes to get to the bottom. I'd love to do something similar on a MTB.
There's a little hill about an hour and a half away from me with a lift that rents downhill bikes, but the hill is so small I've never had much of a desire to spend the cash.
A few years back 8 of us did a ride near Lake Isabella where you take a shuttle van to 9200 feet and ride singletrack back down to the lake @
2500. It's mostly downhill and drops 5000 feet in the last 8 or 9 miles. There are flowing springs and beautiful high meadows along the way. We stopped for pictures and lunch and spent 5+hours on the trail.
