In the past, with vinyl, I've had good luck using a slightly soapy water solution to "float" the decals into proper alignment. You're saying that won't work here? That's my main concern, I suppose, because I've found vinyl decals actually very forgiving if you apply them wet. But that's also exactly what I'm afraid of doing with these old ones.
