Speaking of which, can someone become claustrophobic later in life? I used to quite bit of cave diving, not the extreme fresh water cave diving type, but well explored, salt water caves. They were still full of tight spots where one needed to pull ones self regularly scraping the tank to the walls and I was always OK with it.
Several years back I was reading a novel in which the main character is a digger/miner in WWI (
Songbird ‘Birdsong’ iirc) and could hardly finish some of the underground chapters and ever since have trouble with tight spaces to the level that worries me
