I just spoke to Mike Garcia this morning from
OddsAndEndos and I have a tracking number for my new wheels. I might finally get under 19lbs. Other TST riders should note that I am using an Ultegra Triple not the Double so there is more weight there. We spoke,or should I say he spoke about Wheelsmith history, and whether or not the wheels I speced would meet my needs and he said they would. So here is what I ordered.
Front Wheel - 680g estimate
- Niobium 30 rim 28 hole
- Speedcific black polished hub 28 hole
- Wheelsmith XE14 black oval spokes (28)
- Wheelsmith black alloy nipples (28)
Rear Wheel - 895g estimate
- Niobium 30 rim 28 hole
- Speedcific black polished hub Shimano 8/9/10 28 hole
- Wheelsmith XE14 black oval spokes (28)
- Wheelsmith black alloy nipples (28)
I also ordered an extra set of silver skewers to replace the ones that Shimano supplied with the Ultegra hubs. Mike did say that the extrusion used in the Niobium rims would be thinner than the Velocity Fusions I am using at the moment, so they would dent easier. He also mentioned that the braking surface is a little thinner. Who uses brakes anyway? Aren't you just supposed to tuck in tight to the bike on every descent that you spin out of? Can't wait until they get here. I have a set of Michelin Pro Race 2 700x23 Black/Grey that will mount these wheels. I will give a complete report with the usual pictures.
