Per the receipt, the part costs $40 + $45 labor, and agree the cost of living greatly affects labor. I wasn't complaining about the cost, just threw it in as a fact.
I'm just wondering if using the same bearing and using a retaining compound was the wrong answer. The frame is 7 years old so perhaps that figures into the equation (like Trek won't repair if over x years old).

I wasn't suggesting anything about the cost but that it didn't seem too out of line IMO. I also wasn't suggesting that the "repair" as done by the shop was the right or wrong method. just asking if the reason to seek service was, it's self, "fixed". It sounds like it was "fixed" in that the clicking is no longer. But I'm not there and not the rider so can only talk to what is posted as it is posted. Andy (trying to keep an open mind and not by default trash those who can't speak for themselves {like the shop or Trek}, note I also haven't cast doubt or dispersions toward the OP either)
