AFAIK, they are hiking trails, not MTB trails.
I rode up Independence Pass from Aspen back in 2000. 12,095'. Even with only foul weather gear it was somewhat tough to breathe up there despite having ridden fully loaded over some tough passes earlier in the summer. I must have gotten soft.
