Point him to Pro's Closet for one of those Allied's. Those check all the boxes, except for the point you were making.
Complete bike, electronic shifting and sub-15lbs for $5k... I would rather have Shimano, but that still makes more sense to me than $4k and cannibalizing the current bike for a 105/Ultegra mix. I'll offer that up as an option, too - thanks!
