I have read that you shouldn't relace a hub that has been cross laced with a radial pattern since the marks on the hub flange left by crossed spokes act as stress risers when you lace it radially. In fact I think the general idea is that you should relace in the same pattern as the original lacing.
Dunno if it's true but you don't want your nice hub to break at an inopportune moment.
