Interesting that it might have been practice to leave the number exposed. Or, not. Maybe inconsistency in production?
Yeah, I know it's not a 1973 or a 1960 Trek 😆 and 73 and 60 make sense for head lug angles.

For those asking: yes it's Columbus. The decals are still apparent on the seat tube and fork blade (barely) and the steerer tube is rifled at the bottom. If I hadn't seen that white dove on the seat tube, I would have never inquired on a $300 ad for a bike in this bad or condition.

I'll have to check for fork tab reinforcements.
