I did not got through the Trek dealer. This is an older bike with a lot of wear. I have a new on on order (It's taking a year or more to get some bikes). I bought my Madone 3.1 used and I am tying to keep it up myself and not spend a lot of money doing it. I know some people like to spend a LOT of money on bike parts, but not me. I just want to ride. I assumed I would be able to find the part online for a reasonable price. What I didn't expect is that it would be so difficult to find information about my bike and any info on the parts. It became kind of a scavenger hunt after a while. I persevered.
