Looks like nice job, it should serve you well. I usually use just a single coat and then reapply as hands/gloves wear down the shellac after cleaning with soft toothbrush, mild soap and good rinse. Also pretty sure I have always used clear shellac which give the just off white tape and cotton string a nice amber color.
