But are you actually in Virginia and not Vermont?

Sorry, it used to be a huge event back in the 70's to the point that EVERYBODY seriously into cycling knew about it back then. Tour of the Scioto River Valley. Columbus to Portsmouth, Ohio and return in two days. Mother's Day weekend (well, it's a good way to know who's serious about cycling!). It was first run in 1961, has been done annually ever since. When I last rode it (1976) you were talking about 3200 or so riders. Went to a height of about 6200 in the late 80's/early 90's, has dropped back to around 2900-3000 over the past couple of years.

As part of my rediscovery of cycling, I'm planning on riding it this year for the first time since 1976. Looking forward to the trip.

Back in the 70's, given a definite lack of major cycling gatherings, this was one of the big events of the year. You'd go to this to see all those exotic bicycles you'd only ever read about, and definitely were not sold in my area (Erie, PA). It was about the same as going to Daytona for Bike Week and hanging out in the classic/vintage area.
