I don't need that kind of immersion - too much potential for addiction, for me. Sleep would be the first thing to go.

Yeah, don't even bother unless you have a specific game in mind and you know that you don't have the power to run it adequately. I spent $400+ on my GPU and it's done nothing but live a life of leisure after the initial benchmarking.
