Yeah, this is a zombie thread, but over the last few years I've done some eBay France buys of bells, and sometimes they throw in an "amuse bouche" of these. Got me to wondering when they started and stopped. Of course the French and the Italian versions have the most flair. Any idea of the date range on these metal versions (vs decals)?
As best as I can tell, they stopped using them during WW2. I know I have seen a 1941, but I don't recall anything later. As to the start, I have seen a 1905. Obviously could be plus or minus a few years, i haven't seen everything.
