Eroica comes up in the NYT occasionally because of the high vowel content.
Some of my friends have done the Eroica rides in California and one guy did one in Italy. You have to ride a vintage bike with exposed brake cables and I forget what else except you can't use clipless pedals. They said people were attaching toe clips and straps to their shoes and using clipless anyway.
The one they did in Central California had rain and the steep dirt sections were difficult with the vintage gears.
