Thanks, but I don't think that's the issue. I've been riding many miles for over 40 years, including one ride across the USA and several other multi-week rides. I've got two custom built titanium bikes -- a road bike and a gravel bike. The bike I'm asking about was built after a Retul professional fit. Now that I qualify for Medicare, I experience hand pain on longer rides (>50 miles). The thicker gel padded gloves help but there are contact points that I think a gel wrap around the brake hoods would alleviate.
Fizik makes some gel inserts, but this stuff is supposed to go under bar tape, as it won't stay put otherwise. If you try on your brifters you'll have to put some additional tape (eg. electrical) over it.

Otherwise, maybe not the case, but you make it sound a bit like the first bike that you've had a professional fit on in 40 years, is the first bike that's caused a problem.
