1. I took it as *he* doesn't have a real need for a power meter.

2. I wouldn't say "significantly flawed" at all. Training (especially training FTP) is one of the least demanding things you can do with a power meter. For training FTP you can absolutely do well without a power meter. There are other things that do require power data, but training FTP isn't really one of them.
