Guy had a pair of almost new 44 wides, which he couldn't use and sold them to me for 200. I am probably more of a 43.5, but the fit is good and I might be able to use slightly thicker socks for warmth and comfort, which I've always wanted to do. So far, the shape is feels better than my Lake 238s, which put a bit of pressure on the metatarsal area of my right foot and also seem to have to be quite snug to prevent my feet from sliding forward. The real test is how they feel after 3 hrs, though.
Oh yeah - now I remember you mentioning them. Yeah, that's a pretty nice deal and I would have been tempted, too, if I thought that they might work.
And this reminds me that I never did take my Specialized insoles out of my old shoes and try them in the Lakes - I might have to do that. I occasionally have some minor discomfort after loooong and/or higher intensity rides, and the Spec "Metatarsal Button" seemed to do okay for me in the past.
