long arm FD vs short arm FD?

Hello scholars

I have the RS405 setup, and got a 48/31 bikingreen chainring for the hilly ride. The chainline seem thinner, so i adjusted for it. But the result is stiff shifting. The train of thought was that these chain rings are for 11 speeds... so I am once again in the incompatible lot... ******the FD got closer to the seatube, the leverage required for the FD to move increased.. is that why???***

But as the mad kit basher, I wonder if a different FD will work and then I saw FD5700. Looking at the Shimano compatibility chart didnt really help because there are "grey areas" that things will work perfectly fine, so I'm wondering what my options are here...

comparing the current FD 4700 and the 5700, the 5700 has shorter arms but its also 10 speed. would it work?

edit: The arm length means pull ratio doesnt it? doh...
