His weight isn't an issue. I'm heavier than that and haven't broken a spoke in years. Go read Sheldon Browns section on wheel building. Low tension will work harden the metal of the spoke because it is continuously going through its yield point. You tension a spoke so it's close enough to yield in tension that it never cycles through it when the load comes off of it. No workhardening...no breakage.
