**UPDATE**

I tossed the cast, altogether. I made a splint out of a 1.75 x 11" aluminum slat. I bent the end around to protect the ends of my last two fingers and wrapped it with cotton. I used the same ace bandage to attach it to my hand. It keeps my hand from bending or moving, so it is doing its job, but I think the ortho might still be a little irked when he sees it . I have an appointment to see him on Tuesday. We'll see what he says.

It goes on and comes off without too much fuss, so I've been able to wear my glove underneath it with no problems.
