I've seen pairs of blackbirds harassing crows who stray too close to their nest in the wrong season. Last month I saw a pair of crows similarly harassing a hawk. In both cases, the smaller birds are far more maneuverable. It's like fighter planes going after a bomber, but with the bomber not having turret guns.
Valid comparison. We've had one particular mockingbird in our yard for a couple of years now. He's ruthless with the crows, and makes a squawk when he's in battle mode that I haven't heard from another one of his species. We call him Steve. Steve is a badass.
