Yes scotch-brite pads work...I do it myself, BUT....youhave to clean the rim of debris afterwards. There will be tons of aluminum grit left over form the pad's grinding of the rim.

Oh, and don't do it very often, it wears down the rim. I just use it for whatever alcohol can't get off.
