I had a car with very expensive HRE non-clearcoated polished aluminum wheels. I was living in New Jersey and the rain there would leave horrific water spots on them. It's very hard water. I used Mothers and everything else I could find to remove them and nothing worked. I finally got some Blue Magic polish and they wiped right off, 100x better than Mothers. That's all I use now. I used to have some before/after pics of components I restored on my vintage bikes but they have a mirror finish.
