there were sources back then that shared the methods of building wheels. I think I learned it from Sloan's "Complete Book of Bicycling", with a bit of help from the Cyclo-Pedia catalog (or was it the other way around?). Either way, it was around 1974 when I was in 9th grade that I built my first set of wheels. The only tool was a Cyclo spoke wrench, I think. Sunshine hubs and Weinmann dimpled rims, with Robergel spokes. Nothing fancy, but I was very happy with the results.
