+1, this a 1989 Supergo Access Comp sold through the Bikedcology retail and mail order stores. Deore II was Shimano's 2nd generation of Deore, just below Deore XT and generally found on mid-range ATBs in the $600-$800 US range. However, Bikecology sold these factory direct, at an attractive $549 US, shipping included. The tubing was Columbus SL OR (off Road). The bicycles were manufactured in Taiwan by Pacific Cycles.

While Deore II is higher level, the Trek and 400LX have some techological advances due to the slightly later date. Most notable are the integrated Rafpidire levers, as opposed to the separate thumb shifters and brake levers. From a more practical standpoint, the derailleurs cables on the Trek run along the top tube, as opposed to along the underside of the down tube, making them less prone to fouling from brush and less prone to mud and ice build-up. I believe The Trek also uses the maintenance free, sealed cartridge bottom bracket. However, being lower level, I believe the 400LX still has a weight penalty compared to Deore II. It could be wash, depending on your priorities.
