I can see clipless pedals causing or exacerbating knee issues. They generally fix the alignment of the foot (with some having more or less float than others) and therefore, the alignment up the leg to the knee and hip. That can lead to torque due to angle limitations. Whereas a platform allows one to freely place and move the foot without a rigid connection between the foot and pedal. Rider feels pressure so realigns their foot, in/out/front/back/left/right/ or two or three or four degrees in some direction and potentially different for the left foot and right foot. Clipless are much more limiting in those accommodations.

Now ALL KNEE problems - probably not.

I presume that the OP will have had a full knee replacement and fully healed when this discussion finally ends!
