1. Having markings on a kickstand is convenient when you need to cut one to length to match a smaller frame.
2. Some bearings have no seals, that's correct. Unless you're riding in really wet/muddy/dusty conditions for an extended period, or if you have too much grease to the point that it increases the ease of trapping contaminants this isn't really problematic, you just need to repack those bearings somewhat more frequently depending on conditions.
