My best averages were in the 16 range and even that was mostly only with a group. I was ok with that aspect of it. Mostly concentrated on getting miles, checking some scenery, and wasting a bit of the hours of the day in the pursuit of something healthy. I can only be envious-ish of that manner of speed.
Boast about the bikes for sure but I just don't see the speed as a big deal. To be honest I'm not that fast based on my failure to keep up with some of the others around here. And the fact that now that I am really trying for speed yet haven't even hit a 20 mph avg ride yet means I really am slowing down. In years past I'd have several rides of that speed annually. I think the bad knees restricting my climbing that much is slowing me down. Now back in my running days I was fast!
I just picked what appears to be my max avg now and am tying to prove that all the bikes can pretty much pull that off. Starting to run out of time though as it'll most likely be turning cold here soon and my lungs do not do well in the cold anymore.
I'm sitting here looking at the old Schwinn 684 I'm should be working on. It's still setup to my son's fit. I only had a few test rides on it a couple of years ago before my son commandeered it. I have no clue what it's going to be like to ride hard nor the Softride that's only seen a few short test rides. It's about to get interesting over the coming weeks, LOL!
