are there any logos or model #s you can look up to answer your initial questions? if any of the batteries aren't up to snuff you can probably buy replacements
I did a little research and Niterider seems to take pride in their battery packs being user serviceable, as well there being diy sites on making replacement packs. I think one site had a simple mod of a common batt pack, and another showed 11 AAA batteries being essentially soldered in series. Things I could do at home
