Finally found this page again... he he. When I purchased the bike and read the specs I thought 'clipless adaptable' meant I could use SPD shoes on one side (like some of you said). I didn't pay too much attention since I wasn't ready to get SPD shoes yet.

So, when I wanted to buy cycling shoes I looked at the pedals and quickly saw this was not the case or I had no idea how clipless pedals worked. (Yeah, I really hadn't ever looked at the pedals before and I'm very new to cycling ... lol!). So, I either the bike shop switched the pedals on me, or all 'clipless adaptable' means is that I can install clipless pedals (like DieselDan said).
