Rough rebound on suntour xcr fork

Hi there.

I've got a Suntour XCR fork, 2006 model, 100 mm travel.
Fork works quite fine, good damping, rigid, solid, stiff, dough it's a low end product, work fine for me.

The only problem that I have, is that it has has a springs for rebound, and sometimes when jumping (2 or 3 stairs upwards, not more) the fork litterally *HITS* the rebound, making a metallic sound. I do not jump anymore, untill I get it fixed somehow or replace it, it's a little too crappy for my "street" riding.

Untill I raise the money, can I change the rebound springs with other springs ?
I know it's not recommended to mess around, that's why I ask.

Thanks.
