Pirelli P Zero Velo tires

Pirelli P Zero Velo tires have, until recently, been my go-to tire for quite a while. Unfortunately, I decided to swap them out for a set of Panaracer Race Evo 3s that I had lying around after getting rear tire punctures three out of five rides. In all three cases, the punctures were caused by a thin piece of wire that had punctured through the tire. I don't think the tire itself is defective. The flats occurred in different locations on my route and the tires were inflated to 105 psi, which is what Pirelli recommends for my weight. The Panaracers are basically bulletproof but I can really feel a performance difference. I would appreciate getting opinions from other riders who have used these tires with respect to punctures. Pirelli makes a more puncture-resistant tube that is pretty expensive ($33 on Amazon). Has anyone used that? Thanks in advance.
