The Toyota is a terrible choice in terms of available space. When I bought my bike car in 2018 there were only two vehicles that provided enough cargo space for two road bikes inside with both wheels left on them. One was the Chevy Traverse which I bought, and the other was the Subaru Outback. The Outback as it did not have 3 rows of seating had a larger cargo area than a full size SUV meant to seat 8-9 people.
There are advantages to buying a 4WD 1500 class pickup with a 6.5 foot bed and putting on a fiberglass cap. Adding curtains for the windows or doing a limo tint will keep anyone from seeing the bikes inside and breaking into the truck. I did this for 50 years and never lost a bike at a trailhead or even with the truck parked overnight in San Francisco where auto break-ins are very common. I have owned 6 Toyota 4WD mini trucks which use the same frame as the Forerunner and they are terrific for offroad use with their narrower and shorter wheelbase but the full size pickup trucks are wider and so more will fit inside the bed and in terms of purchase price and fuel economy there is no difference in real world use.
