Both Hebie and Pletscher ESGE sell center mounted kickstand plates to braze onto the bottom of a frame. They both feature an aligning ridge that prevents the stand from shifting once it is tightened down. No crushing chainstays! The top plate no longer becomes necessary. Given the description of your needs, one of these with a two legged Pletscher kickstand should work.
