I hate (and suck at) backing trailers too. Those small ones, even when filled, are lightweight enough that I actually unhitch it and move it to where I want it by hand. For security, when parked at overnight stops along the way…obviously I leave the doors padlocked. And, I got a ball lock to prevent it from being towed away. The ball locks into the hitch socket on the trailer.
