I cold set it, yes - and it was nerve-wracking! (but slowly and incrementally, checking with the caliper after each effort I got it to 130mm, symmetrically spaced) ... I did try squeezing the hub in at first, but it was so tight I knew I wouldn't want to be doing that every time I needed to change a tire, etc.
The downtube shifter on the drive side has been modified into a housing stop (I think that's what you meant?)
