Correct. I'm not sure why one would configure a lap at a specified distance though.
A 5-mile lap is just what Garmins come set with as a default. I've never changed it because it doesn't get in the way of any laps that I'd manually trigger and I occasionally use the 5 mile beep as a reminder to nibble on something on longer rides and to get an idea of my pace.
