I'm pretty certain it was a Shimano 2-piece crank. It's not bothering me to not know the exact crank or BB model I was talking about. It wasn't useful to the conversation as to why the cap or fixing bolt is longer for one model crank but not another. And was a bad example for a train of thought that I never fully completed.
