I think the point is not racing other riders or mailboxes, I think it is about chasing them. Around these parts when I see another rider, I try to catch up to them for sociable reasons, not to race reasons. Mailboxes are only items up ahead that I mistake for another rider.
The only thing I race around here are dogs, unless I have a ride partner along, then when the dogs come out I race my partner...the loser deals with the dogs.
