yeah thats right, only the front half of that clamp is directly attached to the frame. so when you loosen off those two bolts, the back half comes away as a separate piece, the seat post slides out, but the front half of the clamp is still attached/welded/glued to the frame itself. so when the seat post is positioned at the correct height and the back section of the clamp is tightened, the post can't move up or down or rattle around at all.

i've had it to a carbon fibre specialist this morning and he said he could possibly remove the clamp sleeve from the frame, but he would have to cut it out from the inside. he also reckons that it is impossible to weld back together in-situ as the heat will damage the frame, and he also said that its highly unlikely Felt will sell me the full clamp assembly with the sleeve to replace it
i'm approaching the point of running out of options
