The only thing I race around here are dogs, unless I have a ride partner along, then when the dogs come out I race my partner...the loser deals with the dogs.

I agree with you on this one

When I see someone, its not to 'race' them but to join them. I like the challenge of chasing someone down and then I get to talk with them and ride with them. It makes riding all the more enjoyable. This is especially true when I am on the roads - I like fighting traffic with another cyclist, rather than on my own.
