Back in my sailor days, the Carquinez Strait bridge was the trickiest bit navigating home to Concord from sea, and that of course, includes the Golden Gate. It was very narrow clearance, width and height, for my fat ammo ship squeezing through that bridge. I remember the big C+H sign by the bridge (different one) heading to work at the ship in Vallejo when we were parked there.
They are developing Mare Island but still have the dry docks and have reused many of the old buildings. Closed the golf course and used the old barracks for fire practice. Rode to San Leandro/Alameda today. Another old base being redeveloped. Beautiful day and caught pictures of a busy hawk.
