Safe following distance never seems to apply to flying up behind a cyclist for some reason.
Lack of safe following distance from the occasional aggressive driver is my biggest safety concern when riding in NOLs. I've seen a jacked up trucks front grille in my periphreal vision with barely a tilt of the head.
Aside from the safey aspect, the parts that bugs me most is the complete idiocity of those close following as the closer they are the harder it will be for them to pass. Total morons. You see the same crap on freeways sometimes when some idiot drives up fast behind a slow truck in the right lane and gets stuck behind it instead of smoothy merging left at a much earlier time.
