We are using the large box, which has about 10 times the volume, but the same 70 pound limit. It averages around 30 pounds when filled with a mix of steel and alloy parts. There are a lot of gaps in between things. I'm sure it would not be difficult to put the weight over the limit if someone filled all the nooks and crannies with ball bearings.
